Drive north on A1A through Ponte Vedra Beach this month and you will pass three storefronts that have changed since a year ago, now full of cars and light at dinnertime.
What Actually Opened This Year
Black Pearl was first. The restaurant, a blend of Japanese and Italian cooking sometimes called Itameshi cuisine, soft-opened January 21 at 880 Florida A1A N. inside the Ponte Vedra Pointe Shopping Center, the same strip that's long held Panera Bread and Beach Diner. Owner Kelvin Ole, who previously managed Sushi Bear in West Jacksonville before relocating from Los Angeles, built the concept around a menu that rotates quarterly rather than sitting still. Chef Abel Chiok, who spent more than two decades in Jacksonville kitchens including Vidrio, put together dishes that lean into the pairing rather than blur it: rigatoni with edamame, buffalo ricotta, and provolone; skirt steak with shiso chimichurri and blistered shishito peppers; a risotto built on cuttlefish ink, scallops, prawn, and Parmigiano Reggiano.

"We really want to change the food scene here, especially Asian food, because everyone is doing the same things, same menu, same concept."
Le Petit Paris followed in May, opening May 7 at 830 Florida A1A N. as owner Alex Chezaud's fourth location after stops in San Pablo and Atlantic Beach. It's the fast-casual French cafe format the brand runs everywhere else: baguette sandwiches, quiche, cheese boards, coffee, wine, prices between $6.25 and $20. Chezaud built the hours around the neighborhood's actual rhythm rather than a generic cafe schedule, with weekday hours set to start as early as 7 a.m. specifically to catch families dropping kids at the nearby Bolles School Ponte Vedra.
The Local opened in the same window, filling a space at 226 Solana Road in the Winn-Dixie-anchored Ponte Vedra Square that had sat vacant since Woody's Bar-B-Q closed there in January 2023. It's a much bigger footprint than the other two: 109 seats inside, another 110 on a wraparound patio, and a bar built to handle a Friday-night crowd without a wait. Roost Restaurants, the Jacksonville group behind The Local and the Wonderbird chicken sandwich concept that ran on Beach Boulevard, had originally targeted an April 2025 opening timed to land right after that year's Players Championship. The build-out ran roughly a year past that, which says more about how long it takes to retrofit a full-service restaurant inside an existing shopping center than any announcement ever will.
Three restaurants, three very different formats, all open within about four months of each other in the first half of 2026.
